I decided to do a series of blogs describing the business' on the island so that newcomers know what they can purchase and do on the island. No need to bring coolers full of groceries we have three great food stores , if you do not want to cook on holiday then no problem there are 9 restaurants on our island.
I am going to start with the three food stores as I love to cook and eat ! You can e mail Maria with a list of groceries and liquor and we will be more than happy to stock the house for your arrival.
Right next-door to our office is Curry's, it is owned by Gene and Debbie Lowe and there daughter Michelle operates the store along with Shana. Debbie goes to Marsh Harbour a couple of times a week and if you are looking for something in particular then let Michelle know and her mum will try and get it for you. In the store you will find lobster, conch and local fish , fresh homemade bread every Thursday, fresh fruits and vegetables and a wide selection of dry goods. Currys also sales cubed bags of ice if you need a large bag to take in the boat with you.
Make sure you try the butter and cheese that comes all the way from Ireland and New Zealand it is the best butter you can find especially when you put it on top of the home made bread and local guava jam ! Heaven !! Curry's is open Mondays-Saturdays 8am-6pm they also have a dock so you can pull up by boat.
The next food store is Lowe's which is owned by Minerva and the Lowe family and operated by three lovely ladies Betsy,Jessica and Tanya . Minerva's husband Pat travels to Marsh Harbour most days so check in daily to see what new items he has been able to pick up in the "big city ". The store sales a wide selection of groceries, including fresh fruits and vegetables, they normally have great avocados and be on the look out for tomatoes grown by Tanya's dad Andy . They also have fresh home made bread , home made cakes ,home made ice cream and conch salad. If you are celebrating a birthday or getting married while on the island then ask Jessica to make your cake they are delicious and beautiful. They also have a side room that sales Guy Harvey t shirts, toys, sandals and miscellaneous items. Lowe's is the only food store that opens on most holidays and Sunday's after church. There hours are Monday-Saturday 8am-7pm and 12 noon until 5 pm on Sundays.
Cake by Jessica Lowe
Sids Food Store is owned and operated by brother and sister Scott Lowe and Martha Roberts any day that you go in you can find Martha and Scott behind the counter with a smile waiting to help you. Sid's has a parking lot so it is easy to park your golf cart and they will deliver. The store is large and spacious and has a large variety of fruits and vegetables , dried goods and they also have gifts and kitchen assecories . Sid's is the store to go to for local home made bread they have white, whole wheat ,coconut and raisin all of them are delicious and are delivered daily. Also try the home made pumpkin roll it is my favorite and is made by Chuck , they also have delicious coconut and pineapple tarts. Sid's is open Mondays -Saturday's 7.30am-6.00pm.
The other place that you can buy groceries that should be mentioned is The Green Turtle Club's Chandlery Shop it is by the marina. They sale dry goods, cold cuts, fruits and veggies in a limited amount , sodas, ice, ice cream and pharmacy items as well such as pain killers like tylenol and sun cream etc. They also sale beer and liquor but only Mondays thru Saturdays as they are not licescened to sale alcohol on a Sunday or public holiday. Always dreamed of coming to the Bahamas and catching a bone fish ? Well once of our guests Jack Hicks had that dream and he made part of it come true ! Jack stayed in Coco Plum Cottage with his lovely wife Carole for one week and booked a trip with Ricky Sawyer so he could catch his dream bone fish.
Carole went along on the trip and guess who caught the bone fish ! Yes Carole did and here are the photos to prove it. of her 11 lb catch !!
Well summer is here and we have been waiting for some rain and finally today it has rained a little.
We don't want it to rain tomorrow as we have a wedding and the guests all arrived yesterday even though they say it is lucky to rain on your wedding day.
We have been really busy the last couple of weeks with alot of return guests , it is always nice to see familiar faces and know that the island means alot to them and that they return year after year.
We just added a new property to our books Turtle Cay House, it is a 4 bedroom on Black Sound Harbour with its own private dock. Check it out on the web site .
